Free Ride?

One of my best friends works at a homeless mission. He is a lot of things but sacrificed them to work in the inner city. He is having a burnout of sorts?

He’s realised that no one REALLY wants to solve the problems, as well. That they’re just throwing money at the homeless situation. Don’t want to solve the problem. Want these people to become ‘productive members of society’. But if they were capable of that they would ALREADY be. They just need to be loved and cared for on their own terms. Just because. But there’s ALWAYS strings. They have to DO something for it. It’s conditional.

We both think that we should just take care of them. Why not? Because you’re capable of productivity? If you can’t have a ‘free ride’ no one can? And you think being them is a free ride? REALLY?
